A simple first-time guide
Reconstitution simply means turning dry peptide powder into a liquid by adding the correct liquid. If you have a GHK-Cu or similar lyophilized vial, start with the product label: it should tell you which liquid to use, how much to add, and how to store it afterwards.
Set up a clean workspace
Wash your hands. Use a clean, dry surface. Wipe the rubber stopper of each vial with an alcohol swab and let it dry. Use new sterile equipment each time you access a vial. Keep the cap and vial away from surfaces that could contaminate them.
That sounds basic, but it is the part that gives you the most control over handling. A clear solution is not proof of sterility, so clean handling still matters.
How to mix it gently
For a typical lyophilized peptide vial, the simple handling rule is: add the liquid slowly, then gently swirl. Do not vigorously shake the vial. Shaking can create foam and can be rough on delicate peptide preparations.
- Draw up the exact amount of diluent stated on the vial or in its instructions.
- Insert the needle through the rubber stopper and slowly direct the liquid down the inside glass wall. Let it run down the side instead of spraying the powder directly.
- Once the liquid is in, gently roll or swirl the vial until the powder dissolves. Do not shake it. Shaking can create foam and some products specifically say to avoid it.
- When it looks completely dissolved, check that it matches the product’s expected appearance. Do not use it if it is unexpectedly cloudy, discoloured, contains particles, or will not dissolve.
- Write the date on the vial or keep a note of when it was prepared. Put it away following its storage instructions.
This slow-add, gentle-swirl approach is also used in labeled products such as OMNITROPE. If a supplier does provide different handling information, use that information.
Quick safety check before use
Before any injection, stop for a short double-check. Confirm the vial name and strength, the amount you intend to use, the unit on every number (mg, mcg, mL or U-100 markings), and the volume shown by the calculator. If anything does not match your prescription, written protocol or product instructions, do not guess—ask a pharmacist or prescriber.
- Clean hands: wash and dry your hands before handling vials or supplies.
- Fresh supplies: use a new sterile needle and syringe for each vial access and each injection. Never reuse or share them.
- Clean vial stopper: wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab and let it air-dry before each access.
- Prepare the intended injection area: clean it with an alcohol swab and let it air-dry before using the product as instructed by your healthcare professional.
- Check the solution: do not use a product that is unexpectedly cloudy, discoloured or has particles, unless its own instructions specifically describe that appearance.
- Dispose safely: place used needles and syringes directly into an approved sharps container; do not recap or place them in household garbage.
These are basic routine precautions reflected in Canadian infection-prevention guidance. They do not replace individualized instruction for your product or route.
Storage: temperature and time are product-specific
Check instructions separately for the unopened product, after mixing, and after first access. Some products require refrigeration and protection from light; others require room-temperature storage. Do not assume all injectable products belong in a refrigerator, or that freezing is acceptable.
Record preparation or first-access dates and the applicable discard date. Follow the shorter relevant limit, including expiry and pharmacy-assigned beyond-use dates. If a temperature excursion occurs or the instructions are unclear, ask the pharmacist before use.
For Canadian medicines, follow the product monograph, pharmacy directions and any assigned discard date. A preservative does not create a universal shelf life, and a single-dose vial does not become a multidose vial simply because a preservative-containing liquid was added.
Research peptide storage: dry material versus solution

This does not establish an expiry extension or imply that every solution can be frozen.
Elev8 Lab’s guide explains why there is no universal shelf life after mixing. The often-quoted 4–6 weeks applies only when information for the exact peptide, liquid, concentration and storage temperature supports it. Some preparations have much shorter limits. Eight weeks is not a default outside limit. Refrigeration at 2–8°C applies only when specified for the exact preparation.
General research-storage guidance does not override medicine labels, pharmacy beyond-use dates or opened-vial contamination limits. Chemical stability and sterility are separate questions. Follow the shorter applicable limit, and do not assume 4–6 weeks is acceptable without supporting data.

- Enter the number on your vial, for example 10 mg.
- Enter the final liquid volume, for example 2 mL.
- Enter the amount you want to convert, in mcg or mg.
- The result shows the concentration, liquid volume, and equivalent U-100 markings.
In Blend mode, enter each component’s mass and choose the reference component for your target. The same volume contains all components; review the amounts shown for each. For Canadians: use the right product information
Research-only products do not come with a validated human-use preparation protocol. For a medication sold in Canada, use its Canadian product monograph and instructions from your pharmacist or prescriber. Health Canada reviews authorized drugs for safety, efficacy and quality before they are sold.
